    Dog Walking

Never has there been a more beloved word (“sausages”?) to our canine companions than “walkies” which is good because walking is actually really good for dogs. Exercise doesn’t just release endorphins in humans it does the same for our four legged friends. Regular walks contribute to your dog being healthy, happy and balanced.

Unfortunately there are times when even the most dedicated dog owner is unable to give their dog the walks they deserve. Our dog walking service fills this gap and allows owners to relax safe in the knowledge that despite their busy schedule their dogs needs are being fulfilled.

Dogs are pack animals and as such we prefer walking them in small groups. We walk in groups of no more than 4 dogs to 1 walker at any one time. Group walks allow your dog to interact and develop good social skills whilst exercising with their friends.

    House Visits

Mary's cat Millie is testament to the adage that "cats hate catteries". We know that as devoted pet owners the times that you can’t look after your pet can be pretty stressful and the thought of putting them somewhere they don't know and might not like is not a particularly pleasant one.

Our “at-home” pet service has been designed to make holidays, friend's weddings, working away from home and any other times that you can't look after your pet as stress-free as possible. We will feed, clean and fuss your pet just as you would if you were there. (Please note: we can't guarantee that you won't be just a little bit put out when you get home and realise your pet hasn't noticed you've been away...).

Our house visits extend to the garden where we can feed your fish and water your plants.

An added bonus of our house visit service is that we keep an eye on your home whilst you are away giving you additional peace of mind that your property remains secure and protected.

Animals of all shapes, sizes and types have played a huge part in my life.

Growing up in Altrincham my family shared our house with several cats, a hamster, a tank of fish and even a snake. Following University I lived in Thailand where as a dive instructor I shared every day with the creatures of the deep!

Since returning to Altrincham I set up and ran over the last 5 years a very successful dog walking and pet care business called Home and Hound. More recently I have been on maternity leave in order to care for my son Isaac.

I am now very excited to start a new business with Mary which will provide an excellent service to a mixture of my longstanding clients and their pets together with new pets and their owners.

I was born and raised in Bowdon where I lived with my parents, four brothers, sister, two guinea pigs (Harlequin and Portia) and family dog Rosie. I now live a hop, a skip and a jump away from my parent’s family home in Timperley with my husband Luke and our rescue cat Mille.

I have loved animals all of my life. One of my earliest memories is being sat on Porthmeor beach in St Ives, Cornwall with a dog (far bigger than me) sat at my feet whilst I stroked his head and sung nursery rhymes to us both. A lovely memory I hear you say! My parents aren’t quite as wistful about events... I was three or four years old and had been missing for ten minutes (or so I am told). As you can imagine my parents learned to keep me on a tighter leash around animals from then on, such was my zeal to make friends with each and every one of them.

As an older child I had a menagerie of pet friends, culminating in the arrival of Rosie, a much beloved (and sadly lost) salt and pepper miniature schnauzer. My parents sensibly waited until I was 12 years old before they gave in to my demands for a dog so that I could take responsibility for walking her and looking after her myself. Much to their relief I took to the task like a duck to water and have never looked back.

As well as a love of smaller animals I have been a keen horse-rider since I was 8 years old. I took weekly lessons at Rostherne School of Equitation until I left for university. As a teenager I gave up every weekend to volunteer as a stable-hand at a local yard. I often worked from 7am to 7pm in the (less than perfect) North-West weather conditions and (bizarrely some might say) I loved every minute. I currently help one of our clients with her pony (also called Rosie) on a regular basis and if you can find me a naughtier horse in the whole of England I will buy you a drink!

I was so pleased when the opportunity came along for Philippa and I to join forces as “Walks & Whiskers”. Our ethos and work ethics are the same and our message is simple: your pet is our priority.

    Client   Testimonials

    Karen - Hale.
A massive thank you to Mary and Philippa for the care they took of Smartie our cat, whilst we were away on holiday. It was a great help to know that she was being fed and fussed over instead of having to go into a cattery. We will be using the service again - Thank you!

    Sally - Didsbury.
Our 2 dogs, Max and Charlie, love going out for a walk with Mary. They are always waiting by the front door on the day that Mary comes as they know they are off for a fun filled hour walk with their other dog pals! It is great to know that they are not at home all day on their own when we have to go out or work all day.

Jenny, Simon, Harry and Clare - Altrincham.
Just wanted to say thank you for caring for our rabbits when we were on holiday this Summer. The kids were very pleased to see them when we got home and they had obviously had a lovely time and not missed us at all!

    Jim - Didsbury.
I love the dog walking service that Walks and Whiskers offer. They are flexible with my hectic work schedule and Poppy loves to go out running with her friends that she has made since starting the dog walking. I don't have to worry about Poppy when I'm working as I know she will shattered after her walk with Mary and Philippa that she will sleep all afternoon until I get home! Thank you.

    Margaret - Hale.
Mary has been a great help with our horse, Smithy, after I hurt my leg and couldn't cope with the daily muck outs, feeding and grooming. She listened to exactly how I liked Smithy to be cared for and he loved the new attention she gave him. I will be calling on Walks and Whiskers again when we need an extra pair of hands!

    Lee and Beth - Didsbury.
Philippa - Thank you for taking care of all our crazy animals when we were away. We have 3 cats, 2 hamsters, a tank full of fish and 1 loopy lizard! Philippa took notes of how each and every one of our pets needed to be cared for.
